A look at history

Ice hockey has a long-standing tradition in Frankfurt, dating back to the 1930s. In 1959, Eintracht Frankfurt established an ice hockey division, which was later succeeded by the Frankfurter ESC "Die Löwen." With the launch of the DEL in 1994, the Frankfurt Lions GmbH was formed, but it filed for bankruptcy in 2010. From the roots of the Lions, the Löwen Frankfurt emerged, starting as an amateur team in the Regionalliga and achieving promotion to the Oberliga under head coach Andrej Jaufmann.

The Löwen have delivered numerous sporting highlights: in 2013, they earned promotion to the DEL2, and in 2017, they captured the DEL2 championship. Under coach Matti Tiilikainen, they established themselves as a top-tier team, reaching the finals in 2019 and claiming multiple regular-season titles. In 2022, they secured the DEL2 championship, earning promotion to the DEL.

Today, the Löwen represent ice hockey in Frankfurt with pride, supported by 40 fan clubs and a passionate fanbase, continuing to build on their legacy of success.

Review of the previous season

The 2023/24 season was marked by passion and determination for the Löwen Frankfurt. Following a solid regular season in the DEL, the team, led by head coach Gerry Fleming, once again demonstrated its competitive strength. With a blend of seasoned players and young talents, the Löwen secured a playoff spot early on. The electrifying home games at the atmospheric Eissporthalle Frankfurt provided emotional highlights and showcased the strong bond between the team and its fans.

In the playoffs, the team displayed resilience and pulled off several surprising victories before narrowly falling in the quarterfinals. A standout feature of the season was the development of key players who established themselves as top performers in the league, offering a promising outlook for the future.

Off the ice, the club remained active in the community through various initiatives, further solidifying its roots in Frankfurt. The season marked another step in establishing the Löwen as a force in the DEL and a promise of future success.
